Love Is...
Not long ago, I was having a heart to heart with my young grandson Brandon - about life, love and relationships. "Relationships, and Love especially - are a lot like Mathematics" I told him... I went on to say that sometimes, like math, they seem:
- easy
- or complicated
- fun
- or difficult
- straightforward
- or confusing
- like you know what is going on
- like you have NO IDEA what is going on...
From there we talked about equations..
"What's 6+3" I asked.... "Nine" - he answered. "15-6?" and again he answered "9" "Okay," I asked, "3X3?" "Nine!" ... Then I asked - "Which one is right? "All of them"- "Is one *more correct* or better than the others?" He thought a moment - and decided ...no.
"So if Love and relationships are like math - can they seem different but still equal the same thing?"
Together, as we walked the dogs in the very cold, Brandon and I decided that the world was indeed a pretty remarkable place, with so many different things in it, that were each connected in some weird and wonderful way.
In my own life this connection allows life to flow into and out of all facets, from grandparenting, to painting, to love, to my work as a Realtor. Actually, now I think about it Real Estate transactions are a lot like Love.... sometimes ... sometimes things seem:
- easy
- or complicated
- fun
- or difficult
- straightforward
- or confusing
- like you know what is going on
- like you have NO IDEA what is going on...
and underneath it all, communication is vital. The ability to listen for information and see beyond the 3 bedroom 2 bath home is to know how a client will USE and live in the property allow me to discover what elements will turn the place from a house into "Home."
Trust is important too. Imagine if after all my equations I asked "So Brandon, what is log3(|sin(-1)(e^(iπ))+9|)^2-7?" Since we have trust, he might feel empowered to answer "Nine" - even if he was unsure. Because even the most difficult answers can become clear with a trusted guide.
That is what I strive for with my clients - in the topsy turvy, never the same way twice world of working with Buyers and Sellers.
