What's Happening Nov. 18 - 24 In And Around Vernon?

So much going on in Vernon BC and the surrounding area this week! Everything you could imagine for a Canadian Winter.. Hockey, Nordic Skiing - (maybe even downhill if Mother Nature deems it so) along with Art events, Live Music -Science and Nature events and community contribution with the 6th Annual Warm & Fuzzy Shelter Collection Drive Thru put on by our colleagues over at Sutton. It's as easy as getting your donation into your car -and drive thru the Sutton parking lot - and the good REALTORS® will take it from there and get it to the central distribution point -where things will be sorted and allocated to those who need it most in our community.  Please share what you can spare.

PIGS: Canada's Pink Floyd @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre
All tickets go for $42.25. Doors open at 6:30PM
PIGS, Canada's Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute will be bringing their critically acclaimed show to Vernon in 2017. Their PIGS ON THE WING show celebrates the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd's 1977 classic album Animals. One of the band's heaviest and most political statements, the concept album has become a favourite for legions of fans, and Pigs will be performing the album in its entirety, in addition to material from across the band's legendary repertoire.

PIGS continues to surprise and delight audiences with authentic performances of Pink Floyd classics, including many songs which have rarely (if ever) been performed live. The lights, lasers, giant screen, and utterly authentic live sound come together to recreate the experience of seeing Pink Floyd live in the 1970s.

PIGS' claim to fame is their authenticity. PIGS recreate the Pink Floyd sound with authentic gear and accurate live renditions of the songs. Every last detail of the look, sound, and feel of Pink Floyd's classic era is meticulously worked out and perfected and each band member assumes the role of their Floyd counterpart. Since their inception seven years ago, PIGS has been amazing audiences with their dynamic re-creation of one of the world's favourite rock groups. With the passing of keyboardist Richard Wright in 2008, fans of Pink Floyd lost hope of ever again seeing their favourite band re-united. PIGS offer the next best thing: an authentic look back into the breathtaking past of one of the world's most timeless bands.

Risk @ The Vernon Towne Cinema
How much of your own life are you willing to risk?
Laura Poitras, Academy Award winning director of CITIZENFOUR, returns with her most personal and intimate film to date. Filmed over six years, RISK is a complex and volatile character study that collides with a high stakes election year and its controversial aftermath.
Cornered in a tiny building for half a decade, Julian Assange is undeterred even as the legal jeopardy he faces threatens to undermine the organization he leads and fracture the movement he inspired. Capturing this story with unprecedented access, Poitras finds herself caught between the motives and contradictions of Assange and his inner circle.
In a new world order where a single keystroke can alter history, RISK is a portrait of power, betrayal, truth, and sacrifice. Executive Produced by Sam Esmail, creator of Mr. Robot.

From November 23rd to 26th, Sovereign Lake Nordic Club and SilverStar Mountain Resort Ltd are hosting events that will convert our traditional ski party into a festival. Fun is the mission, and there are activities for every level of skier from beginner to elite racer.
  • Skiing is still the main event with at least 30km of trails open and set.
  • If you are interested in the latest skis and gear, it is here to demo on natural snow.
  • If skiing is better with beer or chocolate, we have events just for you.
  • If you are a racer, there are four ‘races’ during the weekend: an informal time trial, a headlamp relay, the BeerCanBeiner, and the Turkey Trot. Want to win a prize? Skiing fastest won’t help you this weekend. Some people will try to win anyway, but it takes a dedicated person to ski past a chocolate station at race pace.
You will have the opportunity to ski on the joint trails of Sovereign Lake Nordic Club and SilverStar Mountain Resort Ltd and to participate in fun activities!

Whether you choose the 4 day or 2.5 days package, you will have the choice to participate in one or several activities.
