Safety First.

The Provincial Health Officer has designed real estate as an essential service, however to continue to service customers, essential services “…. must, however, follow the orders and guidance provided by the PHO to ensure safe operations and reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19”
This guidance includes the recommendation to stay home (and not see a home for sale) if:
1. You are Sick;
2. You have a Fever;
3. You have had contact with anyone with Covid19; or
4. You have recently travelled;
5. Plus any new guidance or orders as they are announced.
Essential Services (like Realtors) can ONLY stay open/ interact with customers “if they can adapt their services and workplace to the orders of the Provincial Health Officer.”
The Real Estate Council has required that licensees ask questions of their clients and attempt to minimize risks to themselves and their client by using digital tools where possible.
The duty to ensure that these rules are being followed prior to entering a home will rest with the Listing Agent for the Seller.

These principals are being put into place a number of different ways by different brokerages, for example: some have a health questionnaires that must be delivered prior to entry or some are requiring listing agents to ask questions of parties entering a home.

These are temporary measures because we have the privilege of staying open during this pandemic and we hope this information helps explain these as “something we have to do” to comply with the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer.
