Us and Them @ Creekside Theatre

Filmed over a decade, Us and Them is a deeply visceral film about transformation through human connection.

It begins when filmmaker Krista Loughton is questioned by addiction expert Dr. Gabor Maté about her need to relieve pain in the world. This takes her back in time, when she befriended four chronically homeless people in an effort to help them heal their lives.

These four charismatic people reveal the heartrending realities of their lives. The severe challenges of life on the street are portrayed with an unapologetic openness, in both emotive and humorous ways. All are struggling with addiction issues rooted in their painful childhood histories.

In this series with transformational memoir-writing instructor Janelle Hardy we’ll use a generative writing circle format with timed writing prompts to get ourselves into the writing habit, generate new stories as well as to share and listen deeply to one another.

This process is creative magic, connected, deep and playful. We'll write like wild women, swift, uncensored and unleashed. Limit to 6 participants per circle. $265.

Mud Bay Blues Band @ Lorenzo's Cafe

$15 cover

~ MUD BAY BLUES BAND ~

The veteran five-piece Vancouver blues-rock group, Mud Bay Blues Band’s new album, Colebrook Road is a rough-hewn gem of gritty hybrid music.

The band’s sound is blues-based, but they take it in interesting directions. The longevity of the group’s nearly 40-year stretch of unabashed rocking gives their music confidence and humour. This elasticity allows them to play fast and loose within their blues roots and they work it to the limit.

Led by singer and harpist Mud Bay Slim (King of the Mud Bay Delta Blues), the Mud Bay Blues Band aren’t purists of any sort and Colebrook Road amplifies their ballsy aesthetic.
